Val (She/Her)

AASPIRES | Scholar | Boston U ‘28

  • Hello, my name is Valerie and I am from Boston! I currently a Sophomore at BU studying Computer Engineering. I am passionate about exploring the intersection of hardware and software, and I enjoy applying what I learn in class to hands-on projects. On campus, I’m involved with HackHardware BU, where I help create opportunities for students to build, collaborate, and innovate through hardware focused hackathons and workshops. In the future, I hope to pursue opportunities that allow me to grow as an engineer while making a meaningful impact through technology.

  • What drew you to working with AASPIRES?

AASPIRES was exactly the program I needed when applying to colleges. It offered incredibly personalized advice and feedback I might not have received from any other. In addition, AASPIRES focused on Southeast Asian students, which I had not found anywhere else.

What was the college-readiness process like with AASPIRES?

AASPIRES helped me be less scared to apply to colleges. Because I had no other help, application process was intimate and prepared me for challenges I hadn't even thought of.

What would you say to students from communities like yours who are unsure about the college application process?

I would tell students in our community to remember their value ie a college decision does not define you. At the end of the day, all colleges/universities are profiting institutions, so don't put all your eggs in one basket!
